Course contents

This course is designed for those who wish to start programming with one of the most popular programming languages.

Java for beginners covers the following topics:

  • Why Java: Understand the advantages and disadvantages of Java
  • Linux? Windows? OS X? How does 'Compile once, run anywhere' work
  • Servlets, applets and applications: How to decide how to write your programs
  • Start programming in Java: Understanding variables, control structures and methods
  • Object-oriented programming: Understanding Classes and Objects
  • More object-oriented techniques: Interfaces, method overloading, polymorphism
  • Server, desktop or mobile phone: Which Java packages do you need for your applications
  • How to use Java packages: Create a simple desktop application that reads and writes files
