This course is intended for people who have used Linux as desktop operating system before or who have been to our 'Introduction to Linux' course.
Advanced Linux covers the following topics:
- Write your own scripts for automating tasks and backups: Using shell scripts and Perl
- The Linux kernel: Configure, compile and install a new kernel optimised for your system
- Linux as a server: Web, database and SSH
- Network security: Monitoring your servers and controlling access
- Installing software from source code: Understanding the compilation process, configuring and optimising applications for your hardware and purposes
- Filesystems: Which filesystem is best for servers, desktops or workstations and what are the main differences between Ext, Reiserfs and XFS
