Course contents

This course is intended for people who have taken our PHP for beginners course or who have been using PHP for a while and want to improve their code style and practices. If you find it difficult to keep your PHP code organised and that your files are getting larger and larger and more difficult to maintain, then this is the right course for you. It will teach you how to use software design techniques and object-oriented programming to organise your code and to make it more readable, extensible and maintainable. It will also show you how use packages to speed up your development and how to use coding standards and good practice.

Advanced PHP covers the following topics:

  • Object-oriented programming with PHP:
    • Basic concepts
    • Objects and classes
    • Restricting access to your code: Access modifiers
    • How to organise your code
  • Software design and advanced OO techniques:
    • Inheritance
    • Exceptions
    • Interfaces and abstract classes
    • Software Patterns by example (Simpleton + Factory)
  • PEAR: The PHP Extension and Application Repository: Installation, integrating PEAR packages into your scripts (using AJAX as example) and implementing the PEAR coding standards in your projects.

Please email us (with the course name and date) at: if you would like to book by email.
